Please enjoy looking back on these memories made with friends, family, and neighbours, new and old alike.

February 6th, 2026

Had a special visit from Ed Edling from Ed’s property maintenance. While he was up providing dumpster service during the wildfire he said he couldn’t help but notice all our volunteers and community were doing to support the fire efforts and one another. He commissioned this piece to donate to our hall to say thank you to us. Such a wonderful gesture and I want to express thanks on behalf us all for this beautiful piece of art painted by local artist Larry Lee.

our new metal roof is complete and is just part of a phased renovation plan (project “then, now and forever) that has been funded through grants from the recreation facility improvement program (department of communities, culture and heritage) and the Annapolis County community grants program.

Having a metal roof on our building has long been a dream and now is a reality! Kyle Pineo and his crew were amazing to work with and helped us along every step of the way, and as you can see did a beautiful job!

This project also saw the addition of new heat pumps to our building and will soon be adding our outdoor stage to the rear of our building. The fire may have slowed these projects down but we have pressed on and the results are showing. Thank you to everyone involved in this project it has been a long time coming 🥰

Had many folks in today to pick quilts and this note was found in one and I thought it was such a nice touch, thank you to all the individuals and groups that donated quilts to be given to our community members, they have been appreciated so much and brought smiles to many faces!

What an amazing night tonight was. We held our community Christmas meal (which is sure to be a yearly event), a lovely roast beef dinner and so many amazing desserts you couldn’t start to count them. Special thanks to the New Germany & Area Lions Club for stepping in to cook and serve us, it was a wonderful treat!

It was so heartwarming to see everyone together having a wonderful time. We gave away some wonderful door prizes and did the draw for our Christmas Quilt, congratulations to Carol Ward who won the quilt. This helped to raise 484$ towards our donation fund!

We also had an extra special moment where Debbie Stultz-Giffin and myself had the honour of presenting all evacuees (plus a couple of special additions 🥰) with special editions of the challenge coin created to commemorate the west Dalhousie wildfire by Hilliardewingdesigns. Some folks may have purchased these as a fundraiser for our donation fund but these coins are different! As we evacuees are part of a group that understands the events of this summer much differently than anyone else these coins are unique to only us. Along the edge is etched our community slogan Worth The Drive, not to be done on any other coins, together we weathered the storm and together we will recover! I took a few moments tonight to just soak it in, thank you all so much for today!

Our Christmas pop up happened today… crafting, cookie decorating, snowflake making, movie watching, snacks, decorating our Christmas tree and having an all around great time with some great people! Thanks to all who showed up and participated, came home definitely in the Christmas spirit.

A special thank you going out to the Anglican parish of Bridgetown and to the people of St. Peter’s church here in west Dalhousie for the wonderful service of thanksgiving they put in this afternoon. Many people joined in a time of fellowship to recognize how thankful we are for not just our community but those that helped during the last few months and on into our future! They also presented us with a collection that has been added to the wildfire donations 405$ . Thank you to all who attended and helped with this service!

✨ A Huge Thank You to the Department of Emergency Management ✨

On behalf of the entire West Dalhousie community, I want to extend our heartfelt thanks to the Department of Emergency Management and all the incredible people who made today possible.

Your generous donation of a generator—and the installation of a new panel to safely power our hall during outages—means more than words can express. This upgrade not only strengthens our community hall, it strengthens our ability to take care of one another. In times of uncertainty, you’ve helped us become a true comfort centre for our residents.

Over the last few months, we’ve built connections with many of you, shared challenges, and worked through the ups and downs together. Today reflects what those connections can accomplish.

Thank you for believing in rural communities, for showing up, and for helping ensure West Dalhousie has the tools we need to stay safe, resilient, and supported.

A couple of days late but I want to extend a big thank you to Greg Pratt of MARITIMES ATV GATHERING for organizing the fundraising rally that happened this past weekend. Words can’t express the emotions around this and how thankful and proud I was to be part of this! Design was approved by our board and it is now a reality…. Thank you Hilliardewingdesigns

November 8th, 2025

Santa’s elves showed up a bit early this year at the hall… yesterday the Lions Clubs of Nova Scotia showed up to surprise us with some extra gifts - some to replace things we lost when our shed burned, some things they knew we wanted for our kitchen and for future community events, some things for our ticket auctions and bingo… and even a new Christmas tree! To say we are thankful would be an understatement…. These kind souls have brought some light into our community through one of the darker times we have experienced together… thank you especially to Linda Baltzer and Jane Lion Gregory from Lawrencetown Lions Club for all of their leg work on this and other projects they have been part of! Thank you from our community for being here for us 🥰

November 3rd, 2025

Thanks to everyone for dropping in to play radio bingo with us tonight, it was a great time!! See everyone next week 🙂 Also Happy birthday going out to Ryan Rogers!! 🥳 No winners tonight but lots of laughs!

October 30th, 2025

Another good news story! Debbie and I were very honoured to have had the opportunity to be part of placing the memorial cross back at the WW2 plane crash site in West Dalhousie.

A request came in to have the cross back in place ahead of Remembrance Day so local DNR Rep Jeff Neily and the Provincial wildfire crewman Corey Isenor ( who originally removed the cross to save it during the wildfire) headed to the site to place it back in its original place. Corey fixed up the cross and they spent the day cleaning and making some minor improvements at the site. What a sign of respect these men have shown to the memory of these Individuals and this very important location. On behalf of the community I cant thank you enough for all you have done!

October 26th, 2025

Huge thank you to all the great people who came out to help with the wood today!! Jason Burton, Kevin Gaul, Keith Wambolt, Angie Durling, Dale Robar, Russell Pierce, Connie Pierce, Dave Cook, Tyler Ward, Carmen Kerr, Adam Forrest, Noah Forrest, David Bowlby, Allison Maher, Jeff Cohoon, Ryan Bailey, we got a lot done so proud to be a part of this and to work with all of these amazing people!! Another shout out to Green Diamond in Middleton for donating the Chain Oil, and the Mixing Oil. And the ladies that helped make sandwiches Marj Ruggles, Joyce Mailman-Baker and a shout out to Ernie Marshall for letting Jason use his truck and trailer !!

October 25th, 2025

Busy morning in west Dalhousie today… Debbie Stultz-Giffin is cooking turkeys and has a crew lined up for catering at the Bridgetown legion for the sports hall of fame tonight. At the same time Judee Rogers is heading up a crew cutting firewood to be disbursed to local residents. Many folks have joined in to help including the Bridgetown baptist church to help get this important job done. Thank you all for your time and generosity towards your neighbours and our community!

October 23rd, 2025

Sending out a big thank you to the local lions club, headed up by lawrencetown lions club member Jane Lion Gregory and helped by many others. They were so kind as to treat our community members to a shopping day at Walmart where we were able to replace lost belongings and purchase essentials for getting settled back into our homes. You don’t know how much we all appreciate the kindness you show to our community!!

October 2nd, 2025

September 23rd, 2025

I want to take a minute to recognize every person who has had a hand in any way to support the fire fighting efforts in our community. To the people who carried things, made food, made phone calls, housed people, donated things/time/money (or anything else), the random calls I made that were always answered with a yes, strangers that came to our aid, fire crews, not for profits and other community groups, evacuees that helped each other and who will continue to- Thank you! I cannot begin to name you all but you were there when it counted and it will be remembered!

Today, I along with Debbie Stultz-Giffin and Julie-Ann Cristine had the extreme honour of being welcomed at the house of assembly. This is recognition is for all of you, this was a community that came together and I am very proud to have been given this opportunity to accept on behalf of our community!

November 10th, 2020

Thanks to our work crew (Barry Gillis, Michael Sarty, Dion Schofield and Justin Hannam); to Ryan Bailey, who although he works for Rice's Concrete, did our concrete delivery and assisted on his own time; and last, but certainly not least, to V.J. Rice's for giving us an excellent price on the concrete. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the pad for our soon-to-be outdoor stage and the framework for our community event sign!
